Ninety new rental apartments for older adults on 75-acre campus in Brighton meet the growing housing need for large Baby Boomer population
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Jewish Home welcomes the first residents of Lilac Grove, as construction concludes on the 90-unit apartment complex for older adults ages 62 and older. With all Baby Boomers now over the age of 62, Lilac Grove is meeting an urgent need for housing.
Lilac Grove is located on Jewish Home’s 75-acre campus, off Meridian Centre Boulevard at Winton Road in Brighton. The four-story complex is adjacent to a scenic pond with fountains and is surrounded by grassy lawns, trees, walking paths, and a large outdoor patio with shaded dining areas and outdoor fire pits. Lilac Grove is within walking distance to Meridian Centre Park and Erie Canalway Trail.
Lilac Grove is a mix of one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, with each apartment featuring nine-foot ceilings; a double-wide, walk-in shower; a washer and dryer; a kitchen with an island and granite countertops; and a video doorbell, in addition to the 24-hour campus security. Additional Lilac Grove amenities include a versatile community room; on-site exercise facility; outdoor pickleball court; a full emergency-power generator; a 40-vehicle carport and large parking lot with EV chargers; and an on-campus deli and hair salon.
“Finding a place to call home that satisfied our personal needs as well as our dreams was not an easy task,” said new Lilac Grove resident Mary Schreiber, who cites among her favorite features the on-site hiking trails, her new kitchen, and opportunities to socialize with neighbors in the community room, fitness room, and outdoor patio. “I want to thank all the people at Jewish Home who had the vision, imagination, and perseverance to develop Lilac Grove — an inclusive and welcoming community with many thoughtful amenities for older adults to live independently.”
Lilac Grove residents have priority access to enroll in the array of Jewish Home’s health care and home-care services, such as physician services, outpatient rehabilitation, and skilled nursing.
“Lilac Grove was created in response to the growing population of older adults in Monroe County and the housing that is needed for our aging population,” said Michael S. King, Jewish Home president and CEO. “Lilac Grove will enable Jewish Home to further serve older adults and help them to live their best lives through our continuum of care.”
Jewish Home offers a full continuum of care on its campus, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, short-term rehabilitation, skilled nursing, as well as a variety of home and community-based services.
“The new Lilac Grove residents are excited that the campus is accessible for enjoyment and exercise, but also for health care,” said Tessa Valpando, Executive Director of Lilac Grove. “This is especially important for couples who may need different levels of care in the future, and here they can just walk across the campus from Lilac Grove.”
Valpando said most inquiring residents say the Jewish Home’s positive reputation is what motivated them to call. “They all highly value Jewish Home, having known someone who has been cared for here or they’ve just heard very good things about Jewish Home,” she said.
More than one third of the Lilac Grove apartments have been leased prior to the doors being opened. To inquire about leasing or take a tour contact Valpando at (585) 784-6626 or [email protected]. Learn more at https://www.jewishhomeroc.org/lilac-grove-apartments-for-rent/.
“I commend Mike King and the Jewish Home leadership and board for making this aggressive plan to accommodate the growing need for housing a reality,” said Marc Reich, chair of the Board of Directors of Jewish Home, who oversaw the development of Jewish Home’s strategic plan. “Lilac Grove is a major asset to our overall offerings to older adults, as well as our welcoming and vibrant campus.”
