Therapeutic Recreation
& Community Life
Opportunities for engagement, inspiration, expression abound at the Jewish Home Tower and Cottages as well as at our independent and assisted living communities. Our team is responsible for numerous activities each week. From book clubs to cooking demonstrations to concerts, you’ll find a lively calendar of events designed to foster connection, personal growth, and joy.
Our Focus:
Keep people engaged in all that life has to offer for as long as possible.
Art
With a certified Creative Arts Therapist on staff, Jewish Home is proud to offer a variety of open art classes that include painting, drawing, wooden sculpture, painted rocks, sometimes even clay sculpture.
Music
Music is important to our residents. That’s why Jewish Home also has a fully certified Music Therapist, and an impressive lineup of concerts, events, and support services.
- Every Sunday, there’s a concert in one of the community spaces.
- Every floor can have two to three performances per month, as well.
- Stephen A. Rosenberg Memorial Summer Concert Series. Made possible by the Jewish Home Foundation, this outdoor concert series fills the air with music from May to September.
- The Music & Memory Program, sponsored by the Foundation, allows residents to have specialized playlists created on a Simple Music Player. These devices, purchased through the Alzheimer’s Store, are a radio with a single button. They help reduce anxiety with music, which can translate to improved mood, better behavior and greater quality of life.
Pets
- Volunteers and specially trained therapy dogs from RocDog visit routinely. These calm, cuddly dogs brighten residents’ days simply by being available for petting, gently “playing” and doing tricks, enjoying treats (of course), even nestling in for an afternoon nap.
- In addition, a group called Wildlife Roc Stars has visited the Jewish Home multiple times with more exotic animals such as baby alligators, rabbits, armadillos, lizards, owls and more. Inter-generational visits
Community Connections
- We also coordinate with schools to organize one-time or ongoing volunteer opportunities. Good for residents and for high schoolers, a volunteer experience at the Jewish Home can affect two or more lives at once.
- We facilitate visits of family members and employees with their newborn babies and small children.
